In Solomon’s time, the foundation of faith was finally laid, and the temple was built. King Saul was in the position of Abraham. Just as God’s will given to Abraham was done through Isaac and Jacob, God’s will for King Saul to build the temple was done in King Solomon’s time, after King David’s reign had passed.
But because King Solomon committed adultery with his many Gentile wives, he lost Abel’s position in the Substantial Offering, with the result that Israel lost the opportunity to lay the Substantial foundation. Consequently, laying the foundation for the Messiah during the period of the one kingdom also ended in failure. Because King Solomon worshiped foreign gods whom his wives worshiped (3 Kings 11:5-9), the united kingdom fell apart after his death, lasting through the reigns of three kings. During the period of the united kingdom, because of King Solomon’s sin, the ideal of the temple was destroyed by Satan.
If King Solomon, who had the brilliant gift of politics, had followed God’s will to the end, he would have united the peoples of the Middle East and assimilated the Egyptian, Minoan, and Mesopotamian civilizations. He would have been able to achieve world domination, paving the way for the coming of the Messiah and his dominion on earth. However, Solomon began to worship idols, and God had to begin the work of destroying the monarchical society he had created in anguish.
