Purpose of love

Love is the source of creation, the source of life. You were conceived in the love of your father and mother; you were born as a baby and raised in the love of your parents. They changed your diapers and fed you every day, which is an expression of parental love.

Every life was conceived and born through love, so a child is meant to grow up in love. Isn’t this the most desirable way to be born – when you are welcome and loved unconditionally by your parents? It is human nature to want this; all people are born with a craving for such love. The experience of being loved and embraced in the bosom of one’s mother and father is a preparation for being accepted into the bosom of the universal love of the Heavenly Parent. The love of our parents is only a “workshop” where we learn what it is like to be in the arms of our universal Parent, God. However, human beings forget the beautiful purpose of love. Instead, many husbands and wives fight with each other and then get divorced.

When a child soils his diapers it is not nice, and a diaper is the stinkiest thing in the world! But for his parents it is joy out of love. The embrace of one parent is a preparation for the eventual embrace of God. When the child grows up, he or she goes to school. It is like a “hug” of society in which the child expands his understanding and becomes better prepared to embrace God.

Thus, a true society would be one in which people’s activities are motivated by the desire to help others. This is the kind of society we should build, not one in which money is the motivation. In school, the teacher is in the position of parents to the students, and the students are in the position of brothers and sisters to each other. The expansion of parental love carried out by society is the second training ground for the ultimate embodiment of love.
