變動과 恒常
Etymology
恒常 (항상성) [hangsangseong] – constancy
All the things we especially appreciate and love are the things that are least likely to change. This is why everyone likes gold, diamonds, pearls, etc.
Suppose we, when we begin self-examination, distinguish two halves in ourselves: on the one hand, the bad elements of internal instability, and on the other, the elements of constancy. Let us consider the fact that there is duality in any human being: on one side, the bodily side, and on the other, the soul or spiritual side. Which side is more variable and which is more stable?
We can say without hesitation that the spiritual side is more stable than the carnal side. We will find that constancy is in the very depths of our internal being, while fickleness is our outer shell. We may recognize the impermanence of our character. Up to this point, we have been changing incessantly.
And what can we say of the true man? He must be such that we can say, “This man is equally good both vertically and horizontally. He is not crooked.” The perfect man is constant and pure. In other words, the center of his striving is true love and oneness with the Heavenly Parent. This is man’s true nature, his pristine essence.
We must find the way to find our original essence, our original purity. This is the one, eternal and unchanging truth. No one can change the truth–not a person, not a family, not a country, not even the world. If truth is with us, unchanging and eternal, one in the past and one in the future, with its help we can build the perfect world.
